Final Project - Front and Back and Back and Fourth

INSTRUCTIONS

4/6/2018 ( week 11 )

Mr Hafiz gave us a short brief on what we had to do for the final project. Because we have done an assignment with art board from left to right, we're now going to do a opposite from the previous project. Instead of developing an outcome from left to right, we have to now develop an outcome from back to front or front to back, hence the title of " Front and Back, and Back Fourth "

1.1 Title's of story

Based on a given wed page by mr hafiz is called " Just So Stories " by Rudyard Kipling, we had tp choose a story that we wanted to do, in order to tell that story in a creative way of the whole story. Comparing it with project 2 this is different because instead of working form left to right now is to do a back and front kind of art work. our chosen story can be done in two different ways, which meant that we'll have two final options, which is either a " Tunnel Book " or a " Wed Comic ". for me I choose the tunnel book more compared to the webcomic, I want to try something different because i rather do something by using hands not computer all the time.

Choosing a story

I end up choosing the story called, " How the Whale got his throat ".

1.2 Identifying the act's of the story

Summary

Once upon a time the Whale ate fishes of all kinds and sizes. At last there was only one left in the sea, a small astute fish that hid behind the whale’s ear and advised him to eat a shipwrecked mariner, to be found at Latitude 50 North and Longitude 40 West. The Whale swallowed the mariner and the raft he was sitting on.

But once inside, the mariner jumped about so much that the Whale got hiccups and asked him to come out. He answered that he would not, unless he was taken to the shore of his British home, and danced harder than ever. So the Whale took him to the beach and the mariner came out. But in the meantime the clever mariner had made his raft into a grating which he fastened in the Whale’s throat with his suspenders. Forever after, the Whale could only eat the smallest of fishes.

Key point of the story

  • Small fish swimming behind his right ear
  • The whale told that he is hungry
  • Small fish told mariner to go and eat human
  • The whale ate the mariner and the boat
  • Mariner jumped in the whale
  • The whale feel not well and ask him to come out

  • On the way to shore Mariner fastened the whales throat
  • Mariner walked out form the whale's mouth
  • The whale can only eat small fish

 1.3 Examples of tunnel book

1.4 Examples of mood and composition

For my tunnel, I did some research on tunnel book. Tunnel book is made up of a series of pages that are held together by folded strips of paper on each side. In fact, the sides of a tunnel book might make you think of an accordion. The overall effect of a tunnel book is to Create the illusion of depth and perspective.  I notice that when I as doing my research is most of the tunnel books has a very fine details.

11/6/2018 ( week 12 )

After deciding on the characters and style I want, I started my sketching my the story I decided the transition to be " scene to scene ".

1.5 1st attempt sketch scene 1-2

1.6 1st attempt sketch scene 3-4

1.7 1st attempt sketch scene 5-7

1.8 1st attempt sketch scene 8

After 1st attempt of sketch I showed mr hafiz, he advised me to put in the negative and positive way on my artwork to make it more interesting because by looking on my 1st attempt of sketch mr hafiz say it looks a little boring and the message is not very clear, so after getting the feedback I redo my art work and sketch it layer by layer to see whether does it work as a tunnel book.

Transition -
Scene to Scene           - 1-2, 3-4, 4-5, 5-6, 6-7
Action to Action        - 2-3
Moment to Moment   - 7-8

1.9 Final attempt of sketch

18/6/2018 ( week 13 )

After I am done its was a Wednesday so I didn't want to wait for next class to ask mr hafiz so I decided to transfer it to ai 1st and show mr hafiz both the sketches and AI so I will be visually clearer so I started to move my sketches to AI.

 2.0 Scene 1

  2.1 Scene 2

 2.2 Scene 3

  2.3 Scene 4

 2.4 Scene 5

   2.5 Scene 6

  2.6 Scene 7

 2.7 Scene 8

2.8 Scene 1-8

25/6/2018 ( week 14 )

Next class I showed mr hafiz he said it ready to print and cut , so after that class I went to a laser cut company in lot 10 to do my laser cut, I didn't want to do the laser cut on paper and cant do it on acrylic because my story or scene won't suit on acrylic so I decided to do it on MDF board, why I choose boards rather than paper, because I want to get the depth of the whole scene when I put up all the layers, so when I reach to the shop I have to prepare the file properly because the machine will follow what is on the screen, so I have to do it properly and do it at the accurate way. If I don't do it at the proper way the machine will cut out wrongly so I did double, triple check before I send the file to the machine.

2.9 Laser cutting process

3.0 All scene after laser cutting

after the art work is all cut I went home and stick all the layers up, after that the MDF board I bought was not enough so I went to the nearest art supply shop at pavilion " ART FRIEND " to buy more for my base piece to stick all my layers on it.

3.1 Sticking up all the layers

3.2 75% completions

After all the scene is done I started to set up my white background with mahjong paper

 3.3 100% Complete

3.4 Setting up the background

after everything is set up I start to take video with my phone, its my 1st time doing a video shooting  I was scared that my video will turn out to be not nice, after many many attempts I finally got a nice video and the challenges I face is the fast changing weather, different angle of sun light, getting a good angle to shoot for our art work.

3.5 Process of editing

After many many attempts I finally good video, after that I started to edit the video by adjusting the colour as a overall, editing some background music and adding in the fading in and the fading out scene at the front of the video and the end of the video. The video editing is not very hard compared with all the process for this project, its just adding in the suitable kind of music and effect.

FINAL VIDEO

REMINDER !!!
When you play this video please set it to " FULL HD " because for some reason after uploading it to youtube my video has been compressed. Dont forget to set it at "FULL HD".

Thank You and Have A Nice Day.
