29/06/18 (week 14)

Our final project is basically consisted of making a cinemagraph - surrealistic gif which could be loosely based on using stock images and images on free images websites or any images of our own.

1st thing that came to my mine was to do a tea pot pouring out blue tea to the cup endlessly like those gif we usefully see online. After that I went home and do some research on cinemagraph and found some images as a reference for my artwork.

1.1 Reference

from there I start to do my project on to set up my camera on a tripod to make sure it stable and there will be no hand shaking on my video that I am about to take, instead of taking Chinese tea I took this blue flower where I feel is special in its colour and its taste like rose tea too, so I began on my video taking

From the video we have to choose a prefect and stable scene to use and start editing, its was hard to choose a perfect scene because we have to consider on the stability, whether is the scene clear enough the water pouring out from the eta pot must be clear too. After I chose I need to duplicate and start to edit and I have to freeze the video so I can start my editing on the pouring part from the tea pot. I did a lot of masking from layers to layers to try to get a seamless gif.

1.2 Process 1st attempt

1.3 1st attempt final gif

The hard part here is to choose a correct scene and to mask properly of the water pouring and the water in the tea cup, so after this is done I send it to mr hafiz to ask is this gif ok, he said it's okay but its not edited surrealistic image so my work was not very accurate after looking back at the brief and mr hafiz said that we have to animate it on after effects not in photoshop and basically this practice I did was all in photoshop and I did not use after effect, after getting the feedback I have to redo another art work.

06/07/18 (Week 15)

After getting all the feedback I was much more clearer on what are we supposed to do I when I was browsing the internet I saw this surrealistic art work and I love it a lot so I decided to animate it and than my project is done.

 1.4 Chosen art work

After choosing the images I want to work on than I move it in after effect and I did all in after effects 1st did was moving the image in to after effect after that I duplicated the original layer than I start to mask the water out so I can animate it.

1.5 Process of imposing image and masking

after the masking is done I added in the effect ripple and after adding it I didn't know how to use the effect so after many many attempts to get the correct of the proper water flowing I started to recording down the numbers for each transition I used so its easier for me to animate it later when I have to record and export as a video.

 1.6 Process of animation

after animation and save as a video is done I have to move it to photoshop to save the video as a gif.

1.7 Process of gif in photoshop

1.8 Final gif

After all the editing, masking, exporting is done I felt not happy with this art work because the animation for this art work is too little as in the whole picture is not moving and only the small little part which is the water is animated and the wave was very calm, I felt this was not enough for my project so I decided to make it as my 2nd practice.

13/07/18 (Week 16)

I redo this final attempt at 09/06/18 and the due date is on 13/07/18 so I was a little terrified I was afraid that I cant finish on time, so without wasting any time I stared to browse again and I found one lady body and the face is covered by the butterfly.

1.9 Main reference

2.0 Reference

My main reference is what I will be using as an inspiration ignorer to develop from there into something bigger as we didn't need to recreate the exact same composition. it will be a combination of my own photography as well as free photos from pixabay and pexels.

2.1 Left wing

2.2 Body

2.3 Left wing

I need to mask out the butterfly into 3 parts the right wing, left wing and the body and I can make the body stay and animate the both wings by animating it to move as if its a real butterfly on the art work moving. after masking out the 3 parts of the butterfly. I used mixed brush tool to merge nicely the background with the human and the lower part of the face, and I have to touch up the mouth and the face part by using the brush tool.

 2.5 Final background

so after everything is mask, touch up and refine its time to move it to after effect to do the animation.

2.6 Importing files to after effect

there is some part that I mask out it does not match and there is black lines in between the butterfly, so I have to mask it in the photoshop file than move it in again to get the perfect butterfly. so after everything Is placed and the butterfly is perfect I started to animate the both wings and I wanted the wings the move from the back to the front to make it look nicer I reversed the process and make the wings from the front to move to all the way back again to it looks like the art work is seamless.

2.7 Process of animation

after many attempts of trying to make it looks seamless, I finally got it and what I found out is I have to write down the transition and the number that I move until the wings reach the front than I have to reserves the numbers so it looks calm and seamless so it won't be one wing to be faster or one wings to be slower. After confirming it I save it to mp4 and I need to transfer it to photoshop to make a gif of the art work.
