LECTURE NOTES
15/10/2018 ( Week 8 )
for this week group 4 is chosen to do a presentation on " Type Design Methodology "
22/10/2018 ( Week 9 )
For this week we have group 1 presenting us on " Typographic Perception & Organisation "
INSTRUCTIONS
08/10/2018 ( Week 7 )
For this class, mr vinod gave us a introduction to our second project where is connected to the first project that we just finished. so with our key artwork which is. created in project 1, we need to use the key artwork and apply it to 3 different mediums. Where 2 medium we have to follow instruction where one is poster and one is e-invitation the 3rd one is a choice of ours.
1.1 Final key art work - Black and white
1.2 Final key art work - Initial colour
1.3 Final ley art work - Final colour
For the 1st medium we was assign to create a poster for the exhibition. It should be done in A3 size, portrait mode. the poster should have visual consistency and more than 1 typographic systems can be applied in to this poster. we should create margin ( 10/15mm ) and create grid lines for a better alignment of element. we have to add in contents that is given by mr vinod from the 1st exercise.
Mr Vinod advised us to start sketching out the ideas first before creating the composition in illustrator
1.4 Sketches
After doing the sketches, I started transfer the idea all in illustrator.
1st idea
1.5 Process of the 1st idea
1.6 Final jpeg of the 1st idea
2nd idea
1.7 Process of the 2nd idea
1.8 Final jpeg of the 2nd idea
3rd idea
1.9 Process of the 3rd idea
2.0 Final jpeg of the 3rd idea
2.1 Process of the 4th idea
2.2 Final jpeg of the 4th idea
After showing the 4 attempt, mr vinod said that the key art work is not interplaying well enough with the text so I was asked to redo again where I am totally out of idea, Mr vinod came over and gave me some advice where I should do something to looks like and art work it self with the text. He gave some idea on doing the poster where he asked me to enlarge the key art work and we tried a few attempts of composition and he finally got one that we are satisfied.
2.2 Final attempt process
2.3 Final attempt jpeg
After the poster is confirmed we have to add 2 - 3 colour in to the poster
2.4 1st attempt of final poster
2.5 2nd attempt of final poster
2.6 Final poster
Medium 2 - Tote Bag
For this second item, we were given freedom to choose any item would we want to put our key artwork on. After the poster the poster is complete, mr vinod asked to decide what item that we want to do where I decide to do it on a tote bag. after confirming the item I start sketching out the ideas.
2.7 Sketches
2.8 Sketches
2.9 Sketches
After sketches is done I start putting my idea in illustrator.
3.0 Process for tote bag
3.1 Tote bag design 1, 2
3.2 Tote bag design 3, 4
3.3 Tote bag design 5
After all the tote bag design is done we have to showed it to Mr Vinod and Mr Shamsul, they have to make the final choice to print out. The chosen design 1
3.4 Final front design of tote bag
3.5 Final back design of tote bag
Medium 3 - Microsite
25/10/2018 ( Week 9 )
For this project, it is connected with our project from Interactive design class. We have to use our key artwork and we have to put in our collaterals for this project which we have done it in Advance typography class.
We have to Create a microsite for the exhibition, we have to create a microsite to invite people to the exhibition or to sell our collateral or we can put in both of it to the microsite, and it should be in one page. We have to create the wireframe sketch and show it to Mr Shamsul before the class end, and we should make sure that the design have to relate back to our key artwork and consistency in the whole microsite. we have to also start thinking about the purpose of the website as well as the target audience. The main purpose of this microsite is to mainly promote the Typosexual Typographic Exhibition where at the same time we can invite people to our event and promote our merchandise shop. " Target Audience is : students, designers and anyone who is interested.
1.2 Original key art work
1.3 Collateral Item
1.4 Poster for the Exhibition
Sketches for the layout
Final Poster
1.5 Progress " Live view "
1.6 Progress " Live view "
1.7 Progress " Split view "
1.8 Progress " Split view "
1.9 Progress " Code view "
2.0 Progress " Code view "
After the html is done, we have to upload our file to a free website hosting which is "000webhost.com", due to some technical problem I cant upload my file to the website, I showed mr Shamsul and mr Shamsul I have to change some the image size and file name. After trying all the possible problem cause, I still have problem uploading the file to the hosting website after that mr shamsul said in that case I have to just pass up my html file and I have to compress and zip the file and hadn't it in to the google classroom.
2.1 Final microsite layout
After many many time trying to upload the file to the server I finally managed to upload it.

FEEDBACK
08/10/2018 ( Week 7 )
Specific Feedback:
Mr Vinod asked me to remove the background as this art work should stand by it self as a key art work where we can take the key artwork to apply it anywhere we want. after background is remove and my work was approved by both of the lecturer as I can proceed to project 2.
General Feedback:
For project 1 our final artwork we should do it in Illustrator so it can be scaled. For the second project, we should start by sketching before doing in digitally. The way the poster is created should also be in a way that fits well with the artwork, and typographic systems can be applied.

15/10/2018 ( Week 8 )
Specific Feedback:
my poster was not interplaying well with the key art work, and I have to focus on only 1 or 2 style of layout my poster if not my poster will look messy where I have a lot thing going on
General Feedback:
Mr Vinod advised us to involve the typographical systems we learnt over the weeks, but we can’t separate it from the key artwork we designed and we must somehow find a way to connect the text with our design.
Specific Feedback:
The tote bag design was all generally good, for my 1st attempt of putting in colour in the key artwork the colour chosen was too dark where it does not bring out the key artwork, I have to change the colour of my key artwork to make it more contrast and I am done with the 2nd medium with the design on tote bag.
General Feedback:
The second medium that we choose, we have to use the key artwork and we have to still maintain the relationship of it. This can any part of of the key artwork or extracting part out.
29/10/2018 ( Week 10 )
Specific Feedback:
The choice of colour for my tote bag " White base " was a good because if the coloured font I have in my design that's why I choose the white base bag rather than the yellowish base bag.
General Feedback:
We need to think of the idea of our final project which will be then conducted in the remaining weeks. We were given the freedom to choose on our interest, only if our idea has a good purpose to solve a specific problem.
REFLECTION
EXPERIENCE
08/10/2018 (Week 7)
We was introduced to our 2nd project and where we have to use the key artwork and adding in some info that has been created in project 1 to design a poster for the exhibition.
15/10/2018 (Week 8)
I continue with the poster design by making some adjustments after getting some feedback from mr vinod. Once the poster is completed, I tried placing my artwork on a tote bag and have a few design for the second medium where the two lecturers can choose.
22/10/2018 (Week 9)
We have a lecture on typographic perception and organisation by my classmate. We have to finish the second medium design by today to show it to our lecturer so we have proceed for printing.
OBSERVATIONS
08/10/2018 (Week 7)
By arranging the texts and the connection with the key artwork It was hard, and mr vinod told me that when the text itself with the key art work does creates a movement and it will make the overall composition look better.
15/10/2018 (Week 8)
Design such as the gaps in between text, alignment of the text and key artwork, the size of the text, leading and more, by completing all said above the composition will be visually appealing and it will have consistency to it.
22/10/2018 (Week 9)
We done have to crop or use the art work where how it was design, we can take our some of the element and use it to design the tote bag, it need not be the whole art work it can be parts of the key artwork also.
FINDINGS
08/10/2018 (Week 7)
Alignment and consistency in the composition is very important because its does help to make the composition looks better.
15/10/2018 (Week 8)
I found out that hierarchy of text in a composition is very important because sometimes we may show or blog or enlarge the wrong info in the info given, because we dont want to mislead the people who is looking at it.

I found out that to put text and image together and make it interplay each other, its not easy to achieve a good interplaying art work.
FURTHER READING
08/10/2018 ( Week 7 )
Type Mechanics - The Spatial Mechanics of Paragraph
This chapter focuses on wordspace between and within lines of text, also when aligning them within paragraphs. Wordspace can be defined by the width of a lowercase i. Therefore, the space will be smaller when the text is set more tightly and larger when its loose. Leading is the vertical measure from a baseline to another baseline below them. Factors that affect leading are the height of lowercase letters also the respective height and depth of ascenders and descenders. Spacing is very important. Without a slight break on the text, the reader will be confused and begin to jumble what they read. On paragraphs, the leading increases as the paragraph width increases. But oddly, as the width narrows, the leading must also be increased to make readers read clearer.
15/10/2018 ( Week 8 )
Legibility and Readability
This chapter mainly discussed about what are those factors that influence legibility and readability. Legibility refers to the ease with which a reader can recognise and differentiate between letterforms. It is influenced by The style of a Typeface (familiarity, serif vs. sans serif, typestyle, colour and value, texture, and also typographic colour), Size and shape of type (stroke weight, contrast, set width, and point size), Background (contrast between text and background, background texture, and the surface). While readability refers to how easily a page of text can be read and navigated. It is influenced by Typeface Selection (consistency of form, proportions, and spacing, completeness of character sets, and availability of designed type styles), Arrangement of Letterforms (alignment, measure, widows and orphans), and The use of Negative Spaces In a Layout.
These two are very important in order to convey the intended message to the audience. Designs must be user-friendly in order to be readable. In this case, they must be easy to navigate and take into account the experience, the reading habits, and the physiology of the reader.
