INSTRUCTIONS
Week 7
For this week, Mr Shamsul brief us on our next assignment which we have to create a packaging for a traditional Malaysia game:
List of Traditional Malaysian Toy/Games
1. Congkak
2. Gasing
3. Capteh
4. Batu Seremban
5. Mahjong
6. Wau
7. Sepak Raga/ Sepak Takraw
8. Chinese Yo-yo
9. Chinese Chess
Finally, I decided to do a packaging for Chinese chess, as I start doing some research and coming out with my own sketches.
Week 8
for this week I came out with some design on what I want to do, for this idea I wanted to do something different which is by creating a a packaging in the game, as I want my design on the game board to be a selling point, and to stand out as compared to other Chinese chess board game, but mr Shamsul said something which make senses, is how am I going to protect the game when its supposed to export to oversea.

Week 9
For this week my 1st idea was rejected so I came out with another idea in sketches form, where I remain the chess set but doing new a box to put the chess in it. Adding in some Chinese element, for my project I want to use 1 culture from the multi culture country which is Malaysia, and the chosen one is Chinese culture, as I did a small research by asking around people me and the younger generation a simple question ( Do u know how to play Chinese chess ? ) the percentage was shocking I ask around 30 person which 18 people reply that they do not know how to play Chinese chess. which was terrifying for me, thats why I want to make a nice looking packaging which they may attract more people or kids to buy it from the shelves as it looks more attractive with adding in the rules in at the back of the box so they can learn how to play it.

by all the factors for the project I came out with this chess box and due to time restrictions once I came out with the design I went straight tot the shop to make my box, but the final outcome turn out great.

FEEDBACK
Week 8
For this idea the packaging looks attractive but the main problem here is how are we going to protect your product when is being export to oversea or other places, is it safe ? will the board break ? so mr Shamsul advice me to do a box for the chess as he knows I want to create something different and I don't want to just do a normal box.
Week 9
the box design is nice and it looks good, the choice of material MDF is good where it will look neat and nice as compared wood which the wood design will be not consistent and the words that I am going to put in behide the box may not be visible.

The box is fantastic, it does bring the perceived value of the game higher and looks classy, great work, great job.
REFLECTION
Experience
for this project, I had enjoyed and at the same time struggle on what I found interesting but not so fictional, as I have to keep in mind that functionality of the packaging and does it stand out on the shelve as compared to other Chinese chess game. there is a reason on why I choose one culture to talk about in the design of the box, and I believe it did present it well enough and I am satisfied with the final outcome. It was a great experience I had in this project creating something I wanted to do so a long time.
Observation
For this project I went a lot of different places that sells Chinese chess expensive or cheap I went and check it out so I will have a better idea on creating one, as I observed that not all Chinese chess board games has a packaging if they do is also not so presentable of something not outstanding to attract people to buy, so while I was designing fictionality and out staring packaging in always in my mind, until the end product I am satisfied with the final product as I believe that it will definitely stand out from other Chinese chess board gems that I saw on shelves.
Findings
I found out that functionality is a main factor that most of the packing is missing out in the Chinese chess board game context where they are just creating one box that can fit in all their chess piece in and thats it, which it also may be one of the main factor where there is getting lesser people that is interested in this game which may vanish in the further 10 years as its getting lesser people playing this game. it was definitely a project that I learn a lot from too, and also the process that I am dealing with a material that is not familiar to me.
